The Lodge hall, Jackson, Louisiana

On January 6, 1827, the Grand Lodge of Louisiana chartered St. Albans Lodge No. 28 in the young town of Jackson. That charter hangs in our Lodge hall today.

St. Albans has lived through two centuries of American history: the College of Louisiana and Centenary College growing up beside it, the Civil War, epidemics and floods, and the great fire of 1876 that burned much of Jackson but spared the Lodge’s hall. Through it all, in Dr. Lea’s words, the brethren “kept the light of Masonry burning, ofttimes under most trying circumstances.” They buried their dead with Masonic honors, schooled the children of departed brethren, and sent relief to those in need near and far.

In 2027 we celebrate the bicentennial of our charter. We are still meeting, still active, and still practicing the principles our founders practiced: brotherly love, relief and truth.

Our Bicentennial Year

Our Bicentennial Year is filled with special programs, Masonic education and fellowship. The year opens with the official visit of the Most Worshipful Grand Master of Masons in Louisiana and members of his official staff, who will join us in recognizing the two hundredth anniversary of the charter of St. Albans Lodge No. 28.

A complete Master’s Calendar of the year’s programs is available to all members of St. Albans Lodge No. 28 and will be mailed shortly after the installation of officers for 2027.

Visiting brethren who wish to join us during the year are invited to write to us through our Contact page.

Charity at Work

Freemasonry is, in the words of the Grand Lodge of Louisiana, “a charitable, benevolent, educational and religious society.” The primary philanthropy of Louisiana Freemasonry is the Dyslexia Training Program of the Masonic Learning Center of Louisiana, which teaches children with dyslexia at no cost to their families.

The St. Albans Masonic Family

St. Albans Lodge No. 28 is also home to St. Albans Chapter No. 80, Order of the Eastern Star, chartered May 18, 1911, which meets in our hall in Jackson.
